Alpacas in Indiana

Leaving this morning was the start of the trip, with just the five of us. We had a 5:30 hour run through the pretty countryside of Kentucky. Rolling green hills that eventually turn into cornfields, complimented by pastures of soy beans. Part of I65 were terrible….shaking and rattling everything in the RV for miles on end. We eventually made it to Flora, Indiana, home of Heritage Farm—Suri Alpacas. Tim, the owner, showed us where to park, then led us around this great piece of property. There was a pretty red barn where they hosted weddings, another barn that was 100 years old, on top of a hill and full of

alpacas. This old bard had amazing old wood beams, with soaring ceilings for the hey loft. There was a natural breeze that blew over the hillside through the barn. Lastly there was another barn that housed the pregnant alpacas and the babies. Another couple, from Switzerland was staying on the property. They were staying in an old barn that Tim had converted into a guest house. They had a little girl and were a pleasure to be around. We shared a bottle of wine, talking about Switzerland, church and music styles. They were worship leaders in Switzerland, and very intrigued in the style of church in America. We went to sleep, woke up to leave, and promptly got stuck in the damp, muddy yard. There is nothing like gunning a 32 foot motorhome through 25 feet of muddy grass. From here we were off to Chicago to see family in Barrington. (Sorry to all our family and friends we were not able to see, our time was super short here.)
